Description

If your students spend large amounts of time looking for information, complaining that they don’t understand what’s on the site, or claim they can’t actually find anything about their topic, then they need to learn how to analyze resources.

Second graders can get stuck bouncing around within a database; hopping from one topic to another. We need them to be focused on research and using their time well.

Teaching Grade 2 students to think critically about the resources they use, even the databases that we provide them, teaches them how to choose resources that meet their research and learning needs while maintaining focus on a chosen topic.

💜 YOU’LL LOVE HOW EXCITED YOUR STUDENTS GET ABOUT RESEARCHING ONLINE!

AFTER downloading this resource you’ll get:

Standards Based Lesson that teaches students how to think critically about resources and meet their learning needs. Standards are listed below.

Poster that reminds students of the criteria needed to analyze resources that are just right.

Resource Analysis Recording Sheets that engage them in critical thinking about what sources will give them the information they need in a way that they can understand it.

👍 One sheet has a space for students to write the name of the source.

👍 Another recording sheet has the sources listed for them to check off.

👍 Room for students to draw their topic; a developmentally engaging way to get into their topic.

Resource Analysis Recording Sheet that lists topics related to NGSS content.

👍 This is a great way to connect nonfiction writing across the curriculum and teach students how to dive deeper into topics they’re interested in.

👍 Students just write the first letter of the resource in the box and they visually see which topics and sources are best for them to dive deeper into.

Resource Analysis Comparison Sheet for students to analyze 2 resources for one topic. This allows them to see which one is the best fit for their topic and learning needs.

Resource Analysis Comparison Sheet for students to analyze 3 resources for one topic. This allows them to see which one is the best fit for their topic and learning needs.

Quick Note Taking Sheet that can be used for early finishers or as an exit ticket.

👍 Second Graders will naturally land on a resource and topic that is just right for them. They will start learning about their chosen topic.

👍 This note taking sheet is a perfect transition for them to quickly jot and draw what they learn.

👍 Space for students to record their source; as they learn in a developmentally appropriate way to cite their source for research.
