A surefire way to keep students engaged in the research process is to use alternative resources. Student favorites include experts, field trips, experiences, and ARVR.
How can we keep reluctant readers engaged so they stick around for a read aloud? After all, they don’t have choice in what gets read aloud to the class.

Just reading aloud doesn’t guarantee students are going to enjoy it. Or that they are going to sit calmly and quietly while we read. Or that they’ll want to answer any of our questions we may ask before, during, or after reading to them. If we want students to love a read aloud, we need a few tricks up our sleeve.
